Recently, K and I were lucky enough to be invited along to Dandenong Pavilion to celebrate its tenth birthday with a group of fellow foodies and bloggers. With Dani Zeini at the helm, it is one of Melbourne’s most popular family restaurants, and it marks its decade-long success with new dishes, a new head chef and a new look. We were treated to a few menu favourites, including their ever-popular burgers and desserts.
Located on the 40th floor of the Heron Tower, Duck & Waffle is known as one of London’s most iconic and popular restaurants. At over 200 meters in the air and boasting breathtaking views of the city skyline, it offers everything from breakfast to dinner to late-night drinks. K and I were recommended to visit by practically everyone we met, so we made a reservation well in advance for their signature eponymous dish.
I’ve been on a bit of a Japanese kick recently and wanted to try out a few more of my local restaurants. A quick search on Zomato led me to Samurai, an affordable Japanese place along Glenferrie Road, known for its masses of great eateries. K and I stopped by after work one day and were greeted by a lovely little restaurant with a very homely vibe, perfect for families and those wanting a casual dining experience. We ordered the dinner set to share between us, as well a few extras on the side to satisfy our curiosity.
K again, and my second stop in Sydney was recommended by a friend – a café just a moment’s walk from Central Station called Devon Café.
It was noticeably smaller than Three Williams with that traditional cramped but cosy café feel. There were, nevertheless, plenty of seats and we didn’t have to wait, a welcome change compared to the more popular cafes in Melbourne.
Another week, another delicious brunch. This time the destination was Porgie and Mr Jones, a lovely café located in Hawthorn that looks deceptively small from the outside, but opens up to a large, open backyard filled with an eclectic array of wooden chairs and tables. The menu is an interesting mix of classic Melbourne breakfasts as well as a small selection of more sophisticated dishes for lunch and dinner.
