Zen

388 Burwood Rd Hawthorn, VIC 3122

Zen is a small, unassuming restaurant in Hawthorn specialising in Japanese food. It was very busy on the night we visited, but the service was lovely and timely. The food was also quite good, although this was matched with higher prices.

Green tea and black sesame ice cream

Everything we ate was very tasty and fresh, in particular the sashimi in my set. I also really enjoyed the crispy tempura in the kaiseki bento and the tender beef in the teriyaki bento. However, I was very disappointed with my green tea ice cream, which was very icey and not at all smooth, unlike the sesame version which was quite delicious.

A good restaurant, but with so many great Japanese options in Melbourne at a lower price point, I’m not sure I’ll be back.

xx Judy
