The Baker’s Wife
414-418 Burke Rd Camberwell, Melbourne 3124
Every weekend, I’m reminded about how lucky I am to live so close to so many fantastic restaurants and cafés, and how many more I have yet to discover. This was certainly the case when I visited The Baker’s Wife – located on a quieter stretch of Burke Road, this café occupies a large expansive space fitted top to toe with timber and brick. There’re some amazing paintings on the walls and I’m a big fan of the greenery that hang from the ceiling. The menu is a selection of café favourites, but each with a twist, and I appreciate that there’s a large variety to suit all tastebuds and preferences.
I’m always on the lookout for good matcha lattes, but unfortunately this one fell way short of the mark – it was very weak and barely had any matcha flavour at all!
One of the café’s signature dishes, the eggsparagus (love a good pun!) is absolutely delish! I really enjoyed the crispy hash brown, fresh asparagus and aromatic truffle flavour – the only downside is that it is quite a rich, heavy dish so be prepared to feel super full.
K’s big breakfast was an amazing selection of all the breakfast items you could ever want. I thought the braised kale was surprisingly tasty and added some green freshness to the plate.
A big bowl of thick-cut chips – perfect for sharing (although probably a bit too much for just the two of us)!
The Baker’s Wife is a great local café that’s perfect for a lazy Sunday brunch. I’m definitely very glad to be living so close to it, and I’m sure it’ll become a firm favourite of mine – definitely check it out if you have the chance!
