I love a good buffet, and Melba in the Langham Hotel offers one of the better all-you-can-eat options in Melbourne. At approximately $85-100 a head for dinner, depending on the night of the week, it’s certainly not a cheap option, but the price reflects the quality of the food on offer. There’s a huge variety, from fresh seafood, salads, a roast meat station, Indian and Chinese food, an endless selection of cakes and cheese, not to mention chocolate fondue.
My favourite part of the buffet is definitely the amazing seafood – the oysters are massive and so delicious, I usually eat a dozen by myself! There are sauces that you can choose from, but I personally prefer the fresh salty flavour that comes naturally to the prawns and the big crabs legs.
There is also a sushi chef located next to the seafood station, who is able to prepare sushi and sashimi on demand – I really love the salmon sashimi, as well as their soft shell crab hand roll.
The roast meat station even offer duck, which can then be made into Peking duck wraps on request!
All the classic Indian favourites, including tandoori chicken, beef rendang and lamb korma. There’s also a made-to-order naan oven where you can request plain, garlic, or even a sweet M&Ms naan!
Yet another made-to-order dish of creamy mushroom gnocchi. I believe the dishes that are available change on a daily basis, so make sure to check before you book.
A cheese-lover’s dream, this area has everything from stinky blues to creamy bries.
With so many different cakes and sweet treats on offer, it’s impossible to try them all, but an honourary mention goes to the M&Ms naan I mentioned before. The quality of the desserts aren’t fantastic though, so don’t expect any fancy techniques or mind-blowing flavours – by this time in the meal you’ll probably be too full to notice anyway!
Finish up with a couple of strawberries dipped in chocolate!
The buffet at Melba is definitely a great choice if you’re looking for a nice experience with decent food. Of course, as with all buffets, the quality of the food isn’t as high as if you ordered a la carte, but there’s a huge selection and really great service too. It’s definitely worth a try if you’ve never been!
